In an effort to not let this blog go to waste, I am just going to start writing and see where it takes me, hopefully it won’t be too random!
This past Sunday, Kyle turned 6 weeks old! He is such a sweet baby despite having a lot of tummy troubles. At 6 days post birth, Kyle had blood in his stools just like Kaylee did around 2 months old. We immediately put him on the formula that worked for Kaylee, but it didn’t work. He was having more and more blood. We switched him to Nutramigen AA which to order from the manufacturer (you can’t buy it in a store) cost $39 a can. One can last 2.5 days. It is some expensive stuff but we have been blessed to find it on eBay for close to half price! He also has reflux which we have been thickening for (well that and because he was choking on it and Dr. S was afraid he might be aspirating some) and giving him some of Kaylee’s old medicine (shh!). Tomorrow is his appt and we hope to get a prescription for his own because it makes him much more comfortable. He has even started giving social smiles and you can see him perk up when you talk baby talk to him! I have yet to capture this on camera, but I’m sure it won’t be long!

Kaylee is getting so big! I can’t believe that in 2 short months she will be 2! She is talking up a storm, sometimes in complete sentences, but not always. She LOVES the garden and all the food that comes out of it. We are working on potty training and she is slowly but surely getting the hang of it. She LOVES her brother and pretends to do all the things I do to him to her baby dolls and stuffed animals. She feeds them, burps them, wraps them in blankets, puts them on his play mat or in the swing, and even takes their rectal temperature and uses the nasal aspirator on them! HAHA! Never a day when laughs aren’t had because of something sweet or cute she does. She is really such a joy!

What a man!
Jon continues to be the glue that holds me together some days! What a blessing he is to me. Since Kyle has been on formula, he has insisted that he go to bed early, I feed the late night feeding, and he take the middle of the night feeding. He never complains about it and still gets up to go to work and provide for our family. Work for him has been a booger lately. Tornados ripped through our area a few weeks ago and his office was nearly destroyed. He has been really busy with that and helping with relief. I don’t see how he does it all! He really is my HERO!
A few days ago I started back on Nutrimirror. It is a free site where you can track your calories and lose weight in a healthy way. I really love it because it is fun and effective. The hard part it being patient while the weight comes off. I took some before pictures, and let me tell you, they are AWFUL. I have thought about blogging about my weight but I don’t know if it would just be too depressing or not! We shall see I guess. I will tell you that I have 25lbs to lose before getting back to pre pregnancy and 35 until I am at my goal weight. I have some work to do! I do have a plan though, in addition to watching what I am eating, I will be in my very first half marathon in November! I can’t wait and training begins on Monday!
Losing weight and getting back into shape after pregnancy was one of my New Year’s Resolutions among some others. Last year our Sunday School class read the book Radical by David Platt. An awesome book that I think every Christian should read. In it is a challenge to do 5 things.
-
To pray for the entire world
-
To read through the entire Word
-
To commit our lives to multiplying community
-
To sacrifice our money for a specific purpose
-
To give our time in another context
I resolved to do the first 4 because the last one seemed impossible for us (a mission trip with a newborn wasn’t something we felt we should do). I will admit that 1&2 have really been a struggle. Praying for the entire world stopped pretty early on. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the day to day of my own life and my own friends and only pray for those things and people. Reading through the Bible slowed down A LOT when Kyle was born but I am trying to catch back up. Jesus is so gentle with me though, even though I fail (a lot), He never leaves me and I know He’s pleased when I find/take time to be with Him. Like the day I made Kaylee a tent on the back deck and watched through the windows while opening His Word.
Unfortunately, this was a one time wonder and she now won’t play out there unless I’m playing too. I wish I were more diligent to find those times every day. I long to get back into a Bible Study group and to memorize again. This is just a season though and I’m going to enjoy it (most of the time anyway!) and try to get back to my resolutions. Another resolution was about adoption, but I’ll save thoughts on that for another post.
That is truly all I have time for right now, although there are a hundred more things I’d like to blog about! It is nice to be able to put memories down every once in a while though and in a way that can’t be lost. I think of all the pictures and journals and things that people lost in the tornados and it is so sad. Speaking of pictures, my next blog post (or the one after that) will be about Kyle’s first professional photo shoot!
Until then,
Katie
